Immigration and the Rule of Law
While I believe W is sincere in his desire to improve the illegal immigration situation, the proposed immigration bill will not do that.
Why?
For me, it comes down to one simple reason: Rewarding lawbreakers.
As an American citizen, if I break the law, I pay the consequences.
Non-citizens break the law and they get rewarded with all the benefits of citizenship as well as benefits citizens only dream about (not paying certain taxes, etc.).
As many have argued (to me, conclusively), W and many others simply choose to ignore what is in the bill. Laura Ingraham says it best. Mark Levin went ballistic this week on his radio show after W suggested folks who want to uphold the Rule of Law were simply racists (useful Levin thoughts here, here and here).
