Of Course He’s Against Abortion

As John Hinderaker points out, it doesn’t get any better than this.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, a Republican who supports abortion rights, said that Alito’s views on the hot-button issue “will be among one of the first items Judge Alito and I will discuss.”

Alito’s mother shed some light. “Of course, he’s against abortion,” 90-year-old Rose Alito said of her son, a Catholic.

Juxtapose the clarity of Rose Alito’s statement with the tired and singularly uncreative boilerplate falling from Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid:

“President Bush would leave the Supreme Court looking less like America and more like an old boys club,” Reid said.

Add to this bland mush racially stupid Democrat talking points:

The first thing they nail is he failed to win a mob conviction in 1988. They nail him on not putting Italian mobsters in jail. Why would they bring this up? This is either a very bad coincidence or very bad politics. Either way it will hurt them.

Hugh Hewitt notes more priceless comments from The Left here and here:

I am astonished that Democrats and the lefty groups are already on the attack against the son of an immigrant and a public school teacher.

Chuck Schumer just argued that it is possible that Judge Alito, as Justice Alito, would roll back the achievements of Rosa Parks. That can only be understood as Schumer’s belief that Judge Alito could find segregationist policies acceptable under the constitution. While it is undeniable that the nomination of Robert Byrd would have raised such a question, it is preposterous and indeed base to even hint at such a thing about a distinguished judge and public servant.

You gotta love the Democrats — just let ‘em keep yapping.
