One thing is certain -- W and Company didn't do their homework before this fiasco.
UPDATE:
To be clear, by fiasco I mean not sounding out the conservative base appropriately and thoroughly, i.e. the theme of W is not smart enough to have known he would have set off his base, or too arrogant to care (or, as some have suggested, both).
