The Insanity
Austin Bay has the best roundup of the insanity the Legacy Media like to call Koran Desecration (or for those who pretend to be cosmopolitan, that’s Quran).
We know disrespect for the Bible or Koran is wrong. But consider the big picture. We’re dealing with hundreds of captured terrorists –thugs without uniforms. The US provided them with their books. And we have five confirmed incidents and four possible incidents by US guards; the worst confirmed incident involves a guard who kicked a Koran. Another apparently stepped on a Koran. The report says this guilty guard apologized. (The right thing to do.) But as for the terrorist prisoners “mishandling” of their own holy writ? . . .
Five incidents – is that a pattern of abuse? Is that indicative of a policy? Of course not. More shuckens. Newsweek ran the “Koran flushing” story to embarrass the White House and Pentagon and suggest a “cover up” of abuse. Well, the cover is off. Here’s the big revelation: the report finds 15 incidents where prisoners “mishandled” their own Korans.
[Brig. Gen. Jay] Hood also said his investigation found 15 cases of detainees mishandling their own Qurans. “These included using a Quran as a pillow, ripping pages out of the Quran, attempting to flush a Quran down the toilet and urinating on the Quran,” Hood’s report said. It offered no possible explanation for those alleged abuses.
In the most recent of those 15 cases, a detainee on Feb. 18, 2005, allegedly ripped up his Quran and handed it to a guard, stating that he had given up on being a Muslim. Several of the guards witnessed this, Hood reported.
Apostate action, big time. And it was a terrorist who tried to flush the holy book.
La Shawn Barber is also exasperated.
Despite what they may say, Muslims are and have always been on a mission to conquer and kill infidels. They’ve been doing it for centuries and will continue until we’re all dead, or they’re all dead, or the world ends, whichever comes first. We need to get over ourselves and focus on stopping the spread of Islamofacism. Period. Save civility and Koran “handling” for less perilous times.
Allah couldn’t have a better spokesperson than a typical American journalist.
PowerLine’s Paul Mirengoff asks Where is the perspective?
But these cases aren’t earth-shaking either. “Earth-shaking” is when al Qaeda converts mosques into military outposts or kills believers as they attend religious services in mosques or other houses of worship.
And they simply laughed at Jesus in urine.
UPDATE:
They don’t teach history in Bangladesh either.
In Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, the Russian gulags are back in business under new management.
I am not saying it. Amnesty International is saying it. It has released a report calling the U.S. prison system, stretching from Iraq to Afghanistan to Guantanamo Bay, “the gulag of our time.” It labeled the United States “a leading purveyor and practitioner” of torture and mistreatment of prisoners. The heartland of democracy is now possessed by demons, and freedom rings hollow in the madness of its endless vengeance.
In the wake of the now-retracted Newsweek story about the desecration of the Koran in Guantanamo, the American Civil Liberties Union has obtained summaries of the FBI interviews with the prisoners. It shows that the inmates had told FBI interrogators as early as April 2002 that the mistreatment of the Holy Book was widespread at the prison, and that it was being kicked, thrown to the floor, or withheld from the prisoners as a punishment. One prisoner had complained as early as August 2002 that guards had flushed a Koran down the toilet.
The author, a banker, obviously did not study Soviet history or read the seminal The Gulag Archipelago. Perhaps the author has not even heard of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, and just perhaps this ignorance is being put on display by The Daily Star to illustrate the dismal state of Bengali education.
Yes, tongue is firmly planted in cheek.

Be sure to read The Anchoress’ thoughts on If you sprinkle when you tinkle… (and the link to Krauthammer).
Michelle Malkin, as always, has a great roundup also.
