McEwen Memory Test

Back in my Warren County (Maineville to be more precise) days, I remember my enthusiastic support for my Representative, Bob McEwen. Then he had some fiscal responsibility and accountability issues (how's that for euphemistic nonsense?). BizzyBlog asks Why is Bob running again? My answer is simplistic, but not crazy. He loves the Washington, DC game (not the accountability obviously), and is banking (pun intended) that his former constituents have lousy memories. Consider this a litmus test for the McCain '08 strategy -- you know, gently push several Presidential judicial nominees under a passing bus, and think voters are too stupid to remember three years down the road. UPDATE: What a Hoot! Thanks to Pragmatist, you have to check out the inner machinations of the Pat DeWine mind. Does this anti-DeWine sentiment alone explain the rush to endorse McEwen as BizzyBlog has asked? Please also note BizzyBlog's open letter and update to original post:
May 25, 5:15 PM Note: I spoke with Mr. McEwen and have corresponded with one of his campaign workers. In light of those communications (blogged here), in which both parties claim that McEwen was “exonerated” in the House Bank Scandal, I have suggested that they post evidence to that effect on their web site. Although McEwen has for the moment refused to do so, I’m in “show-me” mode on the House Bank Scandal issue for the time being. My objections to his lack of presence in the district, the outside impositions by “moral” leaders and Washington insiders, and the political damage, both past and potentially current, McEwen has wrought or may bring about, still stand.
Still, the best the Ohio GOP can counter with is a known check bouncer (who may or may not have been exonerated -- those details should be delicious)? I guess that's why they have Governor Tax Taft as well as Dueling Mavericks Voinovich and DeWine. Makes Boxer almost look refreshing. UPDATE II: The Left is tickled here and here. UPDATE III: More from Ohio 2nd District resident Dan -- my co-conspirator at The Other Corner. Randy leaves a comment saying:
My wife and I are throwing our support behind Tom Brinkman who we believe is consistently the better candidate. Pat DeWine--yuck!! Mike DeWine--what else could one expect from this so-called conservative who supported the armed seizing of Elian Gonzales? Jean Schmidt--nice lady (we've known her for years) but a kept Republican (she'll do whatever the leadership wants, no matter how liberal).

UPDATE IV: More recent updates.

2nd Congressional District (OH) GOP Primary: An Attempted Coronation for Bouncin’ Bob McEwen?

Note to blog readers: I live in this congressional district and am troubled by what I see happening in this election, so please forgive the temporary parochial tilt. Besides, I would argue that this post says a lot about how “business” is done in Wa…

Would McEwen’s present backers support him if he were a church pastor?

The choice in this election is between Bob McEwen and Pat DeWine. No one else has a realistic shot. So take your pick between these two people.

Brinkman has all but admittted he can’t win, and many see him TRYING to split the vote so that DeWine does win – not because he has any love for him, but because he knows he’s about to be term-limited out of his current job and could immediately run for Hamilton County Commissioner.

Jean Schmidt works hard – so hard that sometimes the truth is sacrificed if it helps Jean. I’ve met all of these candidates at the various forums, and each of you considering a vote in this primary should consider doing the same. Find the candidate you like, and vote for him or her.

As for me and my house, we are voting against Pat DeWine, which means we are voting for Bob McEwen.
